FINALLY DONE!: Artist's Statement

I've decide to name my collage 'When I'm 64'. I chose this name because it is a song by the Beetles and when I was in grade 3, I performed the song with my class during our unit which was young & old. A sign of decay in humans is growing old, as people, aging is inevitable but is dreaded and commonly seen as an 'ugly' thing by humankind. But I think elderly people shouldn't be seen like that, growing old is okay, it means that one is ripe with experience and knowledge and has lived through the worst and best of life and that deserves respect. In my work, I put pictures of the elderly people who have stereotypes such as boring, slow, forgetful, sickly and even useless contrasting with lively backgrounds, items and animals. I did this to oppose the stigma. My intention was to create something eccentric and lively that seems realistic and has elements of nature. The main point I wanted to prove is that there is beauty in growing old.
